When Richard Steven Gehlert opened our first roastery at 408 West Jefferson, in Detroit, coffee blending was simple. It was 1903 and he used the highest grades of Central and South American coffees he could source, creating a brew that many tried to copy. We’ve used the original recipe, roasting it slightly darker for a rich flavor without roasting out the subtle nuances of these beautiful coffees.
